Diagnostic Tests

Our 64-slice CT scanner allows us to view any internal organ, arteries and veins in the body with clarity and great detail and diagnose disease states with these organs and/or arteries. CT Angiography tests are valuable because they are noninvasive and allow for such direct visualization. Physicians can determine, for example, the severity of obstructive coronary disease, and can detect calcified and “soft” non-calcified plaques in the wall of the coronary artery and implement appropriate preventive treatment before the disease results in significant obstruction.

CT Angiography rules out the need for more invasive diagnostic tools in about 30-50% patients — those with indications for conventional angiography, but considered to be at low to medium risk.

CT Angiography may be used in patients with:

  • Acute or chronic chest pain
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Patients with suspected coronary artery disease, following an abnormal stress echocardiogram or stress perfusion testing
  • Post-coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Pericardial disease
  • In suspected cerebral hemorrhage or stroke
  • Thoracic and abdominal aortic disease
  • Renal artery evaluation for renovascular hypertension
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Carotid artery stenosis
  • Pulmonary embolus
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • For the evaluation of venous disease
  • All noncardiac and nonvascular structures in the body including bone and joints.
